Prosthetic Leg: Civil War Era
Around the time of the American Civil War, prosthetics had just become popular and were becoming more and more common. Many injuries obtained during war were treated by amputation, for lack of a more effective method in a time where modern technologies were not available. Soldiers who had lost limbs at war were often given prosthetic limbs upon returning home. By the first and second World Wars, technology had changed, allowing more and more prosthetics to be produced. The limbs were now popular among regular citizens as well.
